Do you consider the glass half empty or half full?

There are many times in life that make us ask this question. For those of you who don’t know, the meaning of this question is when in a difficult situation, do you think positively or negatively when there is an equal chance of there being a good or bad outcome.

A good example of such a situation is being stuck in a lift that has malfunctioned. You would either think about being rescued, or that the situation was hopeless.

The positive point of view is considered as the glass being 1/2 full, and the negative point of view would be it being 1/2 empty, the key to this being the 50% chance of either outcome in this situation.

It is widely believed that positive thinking can actually extend your life-span, as it is better for human brains than empty negative based thoughts.

What perception of the glass a person has usually depends on a number of factors including their full life experiences, and also their personalities.

Therefore, if you ever find yourself in a difficult situation or one that may seem impossible to overcome, the best thing to do is to realise that there is an equal chance of a positive or negative outcome.

As considering the best outcome is better for you, especially emotionally, this is what you should do in the event of such a thing happening, try and feel full rather than empty.
